Capital Ship[]

You can get a capital ship straight up in the game without buying Crystal....

I always do (one free capital ship at the very start) just have to build your ship first :)

Part of the how the game works, I think. First capital is always free, unless the map specifies otherwise. --Libelnon 21:53, April 13, 2010 (UTC)

The practice of buying a resource low to later sell at a higher price is theoretically possible, but not practical in a game where war is always around the corner

Not necessarily. In a particularly large and long game (for example one of my custom maps is spread out across about 270 planets shared between 30 stars) this could be an effective way for the underdog to get a struggling economy a much needed boost. --Libelnon 21:53, April 13, 2010 (UTC)

That statement is pretty generous to begin with. The black market markup is 100%, which is greater than its own hard-coded price fluctuations. This means that the black market will never buy metal or crystal for more than it sells it. So in order to do this you must sell to other players. The problem with that is simple: if people are buying metal and/or crystal often enough that this is a profitable activity, the black market's going price will be sky-high and there will be no profit margin left for you as a middle-man. It's theoretically possible to do this, but the margins are incredibly slim in practice. In a world with investment returns that can hit 10% per minute this is not a practical use of your time or efforts --Darvin3 01:57, April 14, 2010 (UTC)

That's a good point. --Libelnon 07:24, April 18, 2010 (UTC)
